Herkner continues to make headlines with his innovative product launches. While I visited Ambiente last week, the world's largest consumer trade show, I had the opportunity to interview Herkner and hear first-hand about his passion and talent for creating new designs. Ambiente first celebrated Herkner when he created and launched his now iconic "Bell Table" with ClassicCon, and today he is considered one of Germany's most favored designers. The Bell Table is lightweight glass and metal made using a wooden mould and created in a transparent tinted hand-blown glass base. Made by hand, each one is a unique piece of art. Herkner recieved the 2010 Red Dot Design Award for the Bell Table, and his collaborations have soared since.

This
February Herkner launched a brand new tabletop collection with Germany's Rosenthal.
The display showcased on the floor of the Ambiente show highlighted his new vases,
clocks and artistically inspired hangers. I was particularly drawn to the Collana vase because the metal collar and
hand blow glass top reminds me of the of his beautiful Bell Table. It is oversized and
unique, showing Herkner's commitment to hand made, artisan products, and it would certainly look gorgeous set on my East Hampton table with pretty blue hydrangeas.
The Collana vase
Herkner
shared with me his love for travel and his passion for photographing local,
hand made wares while on his journeys, which all work to inspire his designs.
He enjoys working with the products from concept through completion
staying closely involved through all stages of the production. He brings a younger audience to Rosenthal, and his designs are fresh utilizing colors such as blue, grey, green and peach in soft natural shades and some offered in a biscuit matte finish. When creating this tabletop line he wanted to bring together a curated collection of wares that may not not usually be associated with tabletop. Seeing these lovely clocks, hangers and vases together it is certainly artistically inspired, unique and stunning!
Today,
with several awards attached to his name and many brand collaborations, Herkner
has an impressive body of work including wallpaper, lighting, furniture and
tabletop. He will launch a new furniture collection this spring and we
made plans to meet when he is visiting New York City for ICFF --
no worries, I'll have the scoop to bring you in May!
Happy Nesting
